CHENDU Oct. 20 (CCTV)-- Reconstruction in the aftermath of the May 12th earthquake in Sichuan has come to an important stage. The rebuilding of 60 large-scale industrial projects, for which China has given 25 billion yuan, began on Sunday.
Deyang is an important industrial city in Sichuan Province, and home to many of China's leading heavy machinery manufacturers. More than four thousand firms were severely damaged during the earthquake this past spring.
Zhang Zhiying, General Manager of Eastern Turbine said "The earthquake destroyed many of our old machines, built in the 60s and 70s. Now we are going to use new machines and upgrade our products."
Many of these projects are large-scale and high-tech ones, which will greatly contribute to the rebuilding of the economy and the upgrading of the industrial structure. Officials have vowed to make Deyang a better city than before.
Li Siqing, Vice Mayor of Deyang, Sichuan Province said "By the end of 2009, we expect our economic conditions to return to pre-quake levels."
Infrastructure projects involving transportation, energy, education and healthcare are high priorities, as a way to help local people get back to normal as soon as possible.
